On November 30th, Marek Kusiba, a Polish and Canadian poet and journalist, visited the Canadian Studies Centre at the Institute of English Cultures and Literatures. During the open meeting with students entitled “Otherness in the Canadian Context”, Mr Kusiba talked about the life of a poet thousands of kilometres away from home, his affiliation to the motherland and the country of residence, as well as his friendship with Ryszard Kapusciński.

Thanks to a competitive Government of Canada Student Mobility Support Program Grant, received by Dr Eugenia Sojka (head of the Canadian Studies Centre at the University of Silesia), one Ph.D student (Alina Grygeirczyk) and five M.A. students (Sabina Sweta Sen, Rafał Madeja, Michał Garbas, Anna Olekszyk, Hanna Mrozek) had a chance to go on a research trip to Vancouver Island University and Alert Bay Indian Reserve between 5.03. 2010 – 29.03.2010.

Their Research Trip Report, describing their activities in Canada and detailing the completion of the research proeject, is now made available for download (PDF file – 3Mb).
